Ah, the desire to stay at home, but the need to contribute to the family. It’s often a crazy relationship between the two.

I get emails daily from women around the country asking how I’m able to stay at home with my daughter and earn an income.

Truly, a post just like this, back in August 2011, changed my life. Viva las vegas!

Holy Moly! I cannot believe this trip was almost a month ago already! It has taken a while for me to actually process everything. Let me start by saying: It was AWESOME!

What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas though… Enjoy this little clip of our amazing team and then read on!

It started out with a little invitation from Shaklee to join them for the Global Conference in Las Vegas, NV! I was both ecstatic and afraid! But you can read all about that here.

Wednesday started great! I had already packed and got extra snuggles from Elizabeth before heading to the airport!

I wasn’t sure what to expect! I had never met any of my team members before since we are all over the United States, but honestly, it was like reuniting with an old friend! It was like I already knew every single one of them (and their husbands) because our team is so close!

As soon as I arrived at the MGM, (minutes after arriving at the airport) I was swept off to the red carpet to register! Talk about wining and dining! They had massages set up for us, lots of drinks and snacks. The MGM staff that registered me commented, “everyone here is just so happy!” So true!

After registration, the Star Achievers from our team had an exclusive event with our CEO, Roger Barnett. It is always incredible to be in his presence! He is one of the nicest, most humble men I have ever met, and I am so honored that he is the future for Shaklee! One of the incredible things about him, is that of all 6,000 people there, he actually remembers you. In the past year, I have met him and talked to him three times now, and he remembers.

In fact, later that weekend, in his closing speech, our team was pictured with him from that Star Achievers event! It was pretty exciting to be recognized and be sort of “the face” of Shaklee!

Speaking of being recognized, on Thursday we had our official opening events and speakers and then I was recognized on stage for my 1st year’s success! It was definitely the pinnacle moment of my year and what will push me harder this next year! This picture isn’t vey clear, but here I am my “my hard work paid off” look with my prized Tiffany box!

During Thursday’s events, we got to watch a live interview with some of the Olympians from London! Shaklee actually sponsors nearly 20 olympians! Several of whom won gold medals this year! It is incredible to be a part of something so big!

Afterwards, our team went out on the strip to find dinner! I cannot say enough how absolutely amazing our team is! We truly are like one big family! Without all of the drama!

Friday was full of sessions and lots of learning! We got to hear from others who have been in Shaklee for 30 and 40 years. Such incredible people. This is for life, people. This isn’t just something that I’m doing for extra fun money. Shaklee is providing my family with generational income! And an opportunity that I can one day pass on to Elizabeth.

Friday night, we were invited to a Future Leader’s Event that was so much fun! Our team had our own private poolside cabana and drinks for being 1 of the top 15 leaders! Have I mentioned how awesome our team is?

We all have different stories. Different “whys”. Different goals. Different dreams. But we all have 1 thing in common: our desire for a healthier, wealthier life for our entire family! And a passion for helping other women have the same!

One of my favorite things about the conference was being able to see all of our products on display. My home is totally “shaklee-ized” as my family truly uses all of them, but there’s just something about seeing them all on display instead of on the website.

*disclaimer* I realize this is not my typical blog post, but it is something you may be seeing more of. While I blog to truly empower other women to find natural, simple solutions for balancing their home and entire lives, the simple gratification of doing it does not keep food on our table. In short, this blog is part of my brand and business and I hope that if you are also a mompreneur you will find this post and the others to come helpful!

First of all, it is an honor to be guest posting for Jess today! As you will learn as you read on, it is almost unbelievable, for I still think of myself as a total “newbie” when it comes to blogging and social media, but I grew so quickly that others are now calling me a social media “expert”! Carazy!

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Jaima and I blog at Ring Around the Rosies. I am also a business leader and marketer for Shaklee, the #1 Natural Nutrition Company in the United States! I started with Shaklee not only because I truly believe in their practices and love their products, but also as a way to monetize my blog and take some of the burden off of my husband as I have always wanted to be a stay at home mom. So what is social media and why is it important? If you’re reading blogs, you are probably already familiar with what social media is. In short, social media is a rapidly developing way of communicating and interacting with others online using different platforms such as blogging, facebook, twitter, linked-in, etc.

Social media is key in advertising and growing your business and/or blog. In order to succeed, you have to be where your clients are, and they are on social media. Most likely they no longer use a phone book, and chances are few actually read newspapers or the flyers that come in the mail. vegas bound {with excitement and worry}

I have been planning this trip on and off since January. Shaklee has been gracious enough to invite me out to their annual global conference to recognize my achievements on stage. About a month ago I finally talked myself into committing to going not just for all of the training and growing I could personally use, but because I know I need to set the example for my rapidly growing team!

While I am honored and so incredibly excited, I am also worried about leaving my baby girl for the first time. She has never stayed with anyone for longer than a couple of hours at a time, so I am nervous for her. I think I will be fine. I know all mama’s need a break from time to time, and so I welcome the chance to grow and dance with friends in Vegas, but I am nervous that she will not understand and will miss me being with her 24-7.

As a work at home mom, I have to get use to traveling a little more now. There will be Blissdom in Dallas come March and other speaking engagements I have arranged as well. But I am still fearful.

The shootings this morning in Wisconsin have me even more rattled. I can’t shake the “what-ifs”. What if Elizabeth gets sick or hurt while I’m gone. Worse, what if something tragic happens to me on my travels? While I have complete and total faith that this is what God has called me to do right now, and while I know that if it’s my day to go – it won’t matter if I’m home playing with my baby or in Vegas, those thoughts still creep up.

Will Elizabeth know how much I love her? Will she remember all of the snuggles and the 10,000 books I’ve read? Will she remember the crazy hours we spend dancing around the house jamming out to “Jesus loves me” radio on Pandora? Will she remember the prayer I pray over her bed every night when I lay her down? Will she miss the midnight visits to her room just to make sure she is okay one last time? Will she continue to be fed good, whole foods? Will she remember the sound of my voice when I’ve sung “You are my Sunshine” for the millionth time? Will she remember the way I smell when we take a bubble bath together? Will she know how much she’s changed me? Will she know how much I love her?

Like I said, I know that God is in control, and I am sure that everything will be fine! I will go and learn and cross more achievements off my list, and Lord willing, return home next Sunday to a little girl happy to see her mama!

I will keep you updated via instagram and facebook while I am away! Please say a little prayer for us though?

get clean–seriously clean

You’re all probably aware by now that I am a Shaklee Distributor and to say I love it would be an understatement!

It saves me so much money, time, and space! And let’s face it, who can’t use more of those three things?
Today I thought I’d take a li’l break from the Cutting Cost at Home Series to share with you my recent bout of cleaning out my cleaners to get clean! And oddly enough, just today the Huffington Post posted an article about this very thing! Warning: there are a LOT of pictures!

Here are a few staggering facts that made me do this:
FACT: The average U.S. household generates more than 20 pounds of hazardous waste each year
FACT: The following household cleaning products are designated as household hazardous waste by the EPA, and “improper disposal of these wastes can pollute the environment and pose a threat to human health”: Oven cleaners, Drain cleaners, Wood/metal cleaners and polishes, Toilet cleaners, Tub/tile/shower cleaners, Bleach
FACT: Chlorine Bleach is the chemical most frequently involved in household poisonings in the U.S., Degreasers may contain petroleum distillates, which can damage lung tissues and dissolve fatty tissue around nerve cells, Glass Cleaners may contain ammonia. Ammonia fumes can irritate the skin, eyes, and respiratory system, Oven Cleaners can be one of the most dangerous cleaning products, which can cause severe damage to eyes, skin, mouth, and throat, Toilet Bowl Cleaners can be extremely dangerous cleaning products, which can be harmful just by breathing the fumes—and fatal if swallowed
FACT: 81,000 CHEMICALS REGISTERED WITH THE EPA IN THE LAST 30 YEARS, and fewer than 20% have been tested for toxicity!
FACT: Asthma rates in children under age five have increased more than 160% from 1980-1994. Common household cleaners can potentially increase the risk of children developing asthma

Now, here are some before’s of under my skanky (and leaky at the time) kitchen sink.

Pretty gross, huh? And not to mention toxic! I thought I was doing pretty good keeping the chemicals at bay by using lavender oil & water to spray for spiders and freshen the carpet. By using Seventh Generation sprays, dish wash, & laundry detergent. But what was hidden was pretty yuck. Behind all of those natural cleaners were cleaners I’d pull out when the natural ones didn’t do the job good enough. Or when I thought in order for guest to think my house was clean it had to smell like bleach.

And in “cleaning” my home with those products I was in fact making it dirty!

(For some reason I didn’t take pictures of the right side beneath the sink – it was full of flower vases & trash bags)

Oh but wait, Remember, I told you I had a thing for cleaners. I had them stored above the washer and under both bathroom sinks.

I didn’t take pictures of beneath the bathroom sinks, but here is some of all the cleaners I had stashed.

Yep, and that’s just some of it! That’s not including the stuff from under the kitchen sink in the previous pictures. Not to mention the laundry detergents, fabric softeners, fabric boosters, and bleach!

After reading some labels, I didn’t even feel bad for disposing of the stuff (ya know, since I’m a “waste not want not” kind of gal).

And then I started fresh.
