Blissdom 2013

Somehow, BlissDom has come and gone already. It was a great weekend in Dallas at the beautiful Gaylord Texan. This was my second BlissDom conference and I was super honored to be chosen as a Community Leader.

Last year’s event totally rocked my world. It changed my whole perspective on blogging and real life. I truly made some relationships that turned into becoming some of the best friends I’ve ever had. And the weekend after last year, is when my little bitty blog (at the time) began exploding.

When Andrew surprised me with a ticket for Christmas I was stoked. Not only has my blog and business grown in leaps and bounds this past year, bus so has the support I have from my husband. Not that he wasn’t supportive before, but he didn’t really get it. Now, we are in this together. While it is still considered MY business, he helps as much as he can. He is one of my strategy guys. We now have almost monthly “date nights”, which are more or less strategy meetings. He helps me plan for things and is the “how” part of our marriage. I am more the “WOW”… He often has to talk me out of things that I think are superawesomeoutofthisworldgottadoitrightthisminute ideas… Because he is the realist and I’m the dreamer.

The best part of this weekend was definitely networking and meeting different folks. I don’t know if it’s because I am in a total different place in my life and business than I was last year, or what, but I honestly did not get a ton of information out of the sessions. They were more inspiring and motivational than the nitty-gritty details of how, that I would have liked, but it was still a fabulous event. I loved Jon Acuff’s closing keynote almost as much as I loved his opening keynote from last year. In fact, he calls for an entirely different post just to himself (be on the lookout for that soon).

I loved getting to see and have lunch with two of my writers, and hang out with the Mama and Baby Love team. I ran into my blog designer, too! And was stoked that several of my Shaklee teammates were there to party with.

I will have a couple of giveaways coming your way soon, thanks to some of the awesome sponsors.

For now, I’m off to plan for tomorrow night’s big event. Seats are filling up fast, so be sure you get one if you are interested!

Hope y’all had just as great of a weekend than I did – it is snowing like crazy here in Nashville now, so bizarre!

introducing

The new Ring Around the Rosies writers!

I am extremely excited to introduce you to our new team of writers! I think you will thoroughly enjoy them as they bring new blood and ideas to our community here! This is a huge step for Ring Around the Rosies! I cannot believe how quickly this year has flown by, nor how quickly this little blog of mine has grown!

I love my “job”! I love blogging and sharing my story and ideas with you in hopes that they will help you in some way! I get the biggest thrill out of empowering other women to find simple, healthy solutions to create balance in their lives! However, as the blog and business grows, as with any business, it’s time to recruit some more help!

Don’t worry! I will still be posting 2-3 times a week for you, and I will still be delivering the newsletter full of tips for you to utilize! You can find my day-to-day chats on facebook, where I love to communicate and get to know my readers! And as a pretty big secret, I actually have two eBooks in the works for you (because I’m nuts like that and can’t focus on 1 thing at a time) and an amazing Christmas series I am working on!

So without further ado: Please help me welcome your new writers! I met each of these fabulous girls at Blissdom back in February! They each have their own niche and personality that they’ll be adding to our site! They will be alternately posting each Friday beginning November 2nd!

Calie from Broccoli Cupcakes will be posting about natural health and wellness! Calie is an expert in this field as a health and wellness coach! She is also a full-time homeschooling mom to two boys and an author.

help wanted

helpwanted

I cannot tell you how amazing this first year of blogging has been. It has been a true blessing in finding my voice and being able to establish a platform to share my story and empower other women. Watching your blog community develop and grow is so humbling, and I am excited to help others have the same opportunity.

As this has quickly turned from a hobby into a business, I find it hard to “do it all”. From developing and editing content, to answering emails, to moderating comments, and also successfully managing my exploding Shaklee business, I must realize that in order for me to continue fueling my passion while nurturing and teaching my daughter and taking care of my family and home, something has to give…

I am now seeking 4 monthly contributors. Contributors who will deliver fresh new content every Friday. I am looking for 1 person from each “niche”: Natural Parenting, Wellness Coach, Home and DIY, and Organizing. Each contributor must fit in line with RATR’s mission and will have a phone interview with me beforehand! If you are a blogger and are interested, please shoot me an email ASAP!

Additionally, I am also opening up advertising space and accepting sponsorships for posts. You can email me for more information, rates, and for a copy of my media kit. I know a lot of you may be asking “why”? And there are lots of reasons. The first is that this takes a lot of time. While it is worth every minute of it, why not get paid for it? I know that’s a risky subject, but seriously. It takes at least 1-2 hours for every post. Add in the newsletter and groups, and it could very easily turn into a full time job. Additionally, I have to pay for my hosting, domain, and other behind the scenes people.

Essentially, I want to make this the best it can be for YOU! I want you to keep coming back, I want you to be inspired every time you visit. And with that, I need help!

Don’t worry: I will still be here. This will still be the same blog you know and love – only BETTER! Not only will you still be hearing from me 3-4 times a week, you will also be receiving new ideas from other fabulous women!

1 year

I cannot believe how fast this past year has gone! It is crazy, really!

A year ago today I made the decision to change my life. I opened my blog up to the public and it very rapidly exploded. I now have over 20,000 daily readers! Carazy!!!

I also chose to begin my own business with Shaklee, and I cannot tell you how rewarding it has been! Our team is one of the fastest growing teams in the nation, and the women I work with are phenomenal! They have helped me not only meet my goals this first year, but DOUBLE every single one of them! In reaching my goal, I have helped over 100 other women create healthier lives for their families!

If you know me at all you know I LOVE helping others, and this morning I received an email that literally brought me happy tears. It was from a single dad who told me how much my freezer meals had changed his life and created more family time for he and his teenage son. Love receiving those emails.

This journey has been so scary, yet so humbling. And I want to thank every single one of you for making my 1st year successful! I cannot wait to see where the next year takes us! Things are definitely turning around for the good finally! I told you in January – this is our year!

Here’s a little look back at the changes that have happened around here!

Again, I love you all! And I truly do love blogging! I love helping others create a healthy, balanced home!

I have a lot of things planned including a couple of eBooks! And I am working hard on new marketing and changing the way some things are done, and also adding some other fun contributors to the mix!

You have blessed me so much!

XOXO,

using facebook effectively to grow your business or blog

*disclaimer* I realize this is not my typical blog post, but it is something you may be seeing more of. While I blog to truly empower other women to find natural, simple solutions for balancing their home and entire lives, the simple gratification of doing it does not keep food on our table. In short, this blog is part of my brand and business and I hope that if you are also a mompreneur you will find this post and the others to come helpful!

usingfacebook

First of all, it is an honor to be guest posting for Jess today! As you will learn as you read on, it is almost unbelievable, for I still think of myself as a total “newbie” when it comes to blogging and social media, but I grew so quickly that others are now calling me a social media “expert”! Carazy!

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Jaima and I blog at Ring Around the Rosies. I am also a business leader and marketer for Shaklee, the #1 Natural Nutrition Company in the United States! I started with Shaklee not only because I truly believe in their practices and love their products, but also as a way to monetize my blog and take some of the burden off of my husband as I have always wanted to be a stay at home mom. Thanks to social media and online marketing, I have been able to achieve that dream and support our family while I stay at home with our two year old princess!

So what is social media and why is it important? If you’re reading blogs, you are probably already familiar with what social media is. In short, social media is a rapidly developing way of communicating and interacting with others online using different platforms such as blogging, facebook, twitter, linked-in, etc.

Social media is key in advertising and growing your business and/or blog. In order to succeed, you have to be where your clients are, and they are on social media. Most likely they no longer use a phone book, and chances are few actually read newspapers or the flyers that come in the mail. They are on facebook…. please read the entire article at Allora Handmade today!

Tuesday

Wow, what a busy week. Here’s a few pictures and thoughts for you tonight.

errands

I have been trying to spend as much time with this little angel as I can. I’m trying to establish work hours that match her naptime so that I am completely focused on her when she’s awake, and completely focused on business during my “work hours”.

puzzles

I cannot believe she will be 2 in a few months. And I surely cannot believe how fast she is growing (even though she’s a petite little thing).

teapartybean

I have some BIG changes coming to the blog soon. I am finally switching over to wordpress, and my design will change to add more color that represents ME. After all, this is my blog, and while I love the blue/grey/yellow color combo, my personality is much more pink and bubbly.

You just don’t know how humbled I am. So grateful that people actually read my words and are a part of my facebook community. I never dreamed this blog would grow so fast in such a short time. I have a story to tell and a voice that will tell it until it shakes. And I will be sharing more about that soon, too.

yellowmenu

I am working on some free printables for y’all still. I just have to figure out how to attach them for you to download.

I still have to add my other simple living tips to the page up there. It will get done. Just like the other things I am working on.

working

I have to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who made Shaklee purchases last month. April was a very exciting month around here, and I am excited to say that I personally helped 33 new families make the choice to create a healthier home and lifestyle. And that was just me – my team helped over 200 (more than double our goal)! I so love what I do, so thankful that God led me to this!

I am also excited to announce that Shaklee has generously extended the FREE MEMBERSHIP with ANY purchase offer until May 31st, so please consider taking advantage of this incredible offer – not for me, but for YOU!

andie

I helped my bffl celebrate her 26th birthday last Thursday. We have been best friends for at least the past 22 years. We knew each other from birth, but I specifically remember us being bff when we were 4! She is like a sister! She has ALWAYS been there for me. I love you, Andie :)

I finally started running again since I hurt my back. It feels really good. I am running my first 5k this Saturday, and I’m training for Nashville’s women’s half marathon in September. This is finally my year, and I WILL make it happen! Anybody want to do it along with me?

run

I am off to bed tonight. I have a great giveaway for you tomorrow and a really special guest post for you on Friday while I work on switching everything over to wordpress.

I hope you all have a great week. Follow me on facebook to keep up with things this week!

balance

Since my blog has grown so rapidly the past two weeks, I have been completely overwhelmed. I’m pretty sure I broke all kinds of records going from 140 followers to over 4500 in 12 days.

With all of the traffic comes lots of comments, emails, facebook messages, direct twitter messages, newsletters to send, lots of stats that I can’t quit refreshing, and so on…

Needless to say, in addition to everything else, it has been overwhelming. I am so, so, so JOYOUS for it though! It is an ever present confirmation that this is exactly what God has called me to do right now.

One of the most powerful things I heard at Blissdom was, “you’re gonna disappoint people. You cannot reply to everybody”. And that’s hard for me. I’m a people pleaser. I want to be as real with you as I can be. I want to tell each single person who comments or emails “thank you”. But I simply cannot.

Don’t think I didn’t try though. Remember back in August when I made my blog public and I wrote this post about being hot or cold? Well for a good while I kept up with the follow up challenge from that post.

But since I started blogging more (which actually has resulted in fewer posts per week) I have been almost glued to my iPhone and my laptop every day for the past 13 days. It has taken a negative toll on me and my family. And this is the part I don’t like.

I am trying to find balance. I have my schedule plastered to my fridge still, but I haven’t been keeping up with it. I’ve had my computer on “working” even when Elizabeth is up and needing my attention. I have fallen behind a chapter in one of my online classes, and most importantly, my one-on-one time with God has been spent publishing things to facebook and pinterest.

While I love all of you, please understand that my husband and daughter come first. They are WHY I do this. Why I choose to work from home. I cannot possibly reply to every single email and comment. I promise I read them all (sometimes over and over) though.

Another powerful thing I took away from Blissdom was the reminder that I am a writer. Writing has always been my way of coping and venting. And lately, I feel like I do a whole lot less of that and a whole lot more of “hey, here’s a recipe”! Though I lovelovelove helping other Mom’s find great healthy recipes and sharing ideas on how to live green, simple, balanced lives, that is not the only reason I started this blog.

(please don’t hit that unfollow button, please hear me out)

I wrote this blog to tell our story. His story. To document the day to day things. To share with you what He has shared with us, how He is blessing our lives through all of the tragedy we have faced, which is what The Pearl Event was all about today.

I will be posting more about Blissdom and The Pearl Event, but I just wanted to jot these things down tonight while they were on my heart and mind. Please bare with me as I find the balance I desire. It may mean commenting less on facebook, and it may mean more posts where I just write instead of posting a recipe or cleaning tip.

I love you all and I’m so glad you’re here. I know that God wrote this story for me to share with you.

Land of Bliss

The day is finally here. I’ve known about it for months. But somehow it snuck up on me… In 12 hours, I am off for a long weekend of what will hopefully be pure BLISS!

I am terrified to be leaving Elizabeth for the first time. We’ve probably only been apart for a total of 12 hours since she was conceived 29 months ago. Thankful Andrew will be with her, and thankful for facetime (which she is obsessed with)! I know I need this time away, and she needs this time with her Daddy, but I am quiet sad about it. Okay, really sad. I love my little Bean.

Anyway, can’t think about it…I will be tweeting and facebooking as I can, but I really want to focus and “be in the now”, so I probably won’t be posting here a lot.

I am an anxious, excited bundle of nerves! But it is GROW time, and this girl is ready (I think)!

If you are new to my blog, first let me give you a hug and say, “Come on in”!  You can find my “about me” post up in the pages tab.  It’s a little short and sweet, but it sums everything up!

You can find me on facebook here where I spend too much time!
I am trying to get up to date and tweet more on twitter, I have loved connecting with other BlissDom goers!
You can find my massive Pinterest pinboard here, where I spend the rest of my time. Addicted.
I have a newsletter, Pocket Full of Posies, that I am putting together. Be sure to subscribe to it to be the first to know about specials and other great things!

I thought I would leave you with some very random facts about myself:

  • I am a terrible nail biter. Always have been. I know, it is disgusting. Makes me look like a total slob.
  • I shave my legs every night. I cannot go to bed without smooth legs. I’d be more likely to fall asleep with dirty teeth than stubbly legs. eek. Trust me, I’ve tried, only to hop out of bed at 1am to shave after fighting sleep.
  • I love hummus! It is my new favorite snack!
  • I cannot function if my floors or counters are dirty. I am shamefully OCD when it comes to wiping down my kitchen counters and sweeping/mopping/vacuuming my floors. My house isn’t spick and span by any means, but I must wipe down my counters 2-3 times a day and sweep at least once a day. I can usually stand to only mop and vacuum 3-4 times a week, unless something is going on. I should add though, that we live in the country. Where dirt and bugs and muck come from. And, we also have a Cocker Spaniel.
  • My husband & I started dating my senior year of high school while he was in the Army. He was my handsome prom date!
  • I break out in hives if mayo touches my skin. I can ingest it, but not get it on me. Weird, I know!
  • My very best friend and I have literally been bfForever! Our grandfathers were also good buddies
  • I know every single line to “My Best Friends Wedding” and it is my absolute favorite movie! I love Julia Roberts!
  • I am a girly girl who doesn’t mind to get down and dirty! I’m a yuppy country girl.
  • I Love diy. I will try to diy everything. Which explains why my business cards are less than par for this weekend.

If you are at BlissDom this weekend, please find me! I am terrified of being the only girl sitting at the lunch table, or the girl at a slumber party wishing she were at home…

Bliss

If you haven’t already seen the little button on the sidebar, I’m prepping for my first ever blog conference! BlissDom! I am veryvery excited. I am also very nervous. But mostly excited.

I have wanted to go for years, just so I could meet my favorite bloggers! Like Lindsey, Gussy, Sarah, Sandra, Edie, RachelStephanie and the many others!

But this year, my big year of change, I am going for me. Don’t get me wrong – I am still very anxious and ecstatic to meet those ladies (and room with Sarah – eek)! But, I’m going for me!

(I hope that doesn’t sound selfish… Remember, this is the year I learn to quit putting myself last)

I am still so very new at this whole blogging gig. I am going to learn. And to be inspired. To find my “niche” (if I even have one). To network and learn some more ropes of Social Media. To grow my business. To have fun!

I am nervous about leaving Elizabeth for the first time, and I’m thankful that Andrew will be able to stay with her. Wait, I’m not sure, maybe that’s why I’m nervous about leaving her… No, he’s a great father. They need time together. And every Mama needs a break to decompress and refocus. It’s good for us and them!

For the past month, I’ve been fretting about fitting in, not having the right answers. Not having an “elevator script” or a “brand” (definition of what my blog is about), or a “niche”. Worried about the appearance of my blog not being exactly what I want it to be. And definitely worried about the appearance of myself. But I’m not so worried anymore. I’m going for me. I’m going to be me. I’m not going to pretend I’ve got it all together, because I clearly don’t. I don’t have a QR Code on my business cards, and my clothes don’t fit, but I am going. I’m going to be me, which is all I can be, and I may be completely winging it, but I will be there.

Pretty sure this is my motto:)
Source Linked

If you are going too, please connect with me on facebook or twitter! I would love to meet up with you! I’ve never actually “met” anyone that’s going! Have I mentioned how excited I am though?
