As we are gearing up for Spring Cleaning here at Ring Around the Rosies, a lot of folks are cleaning up debris from the tornadoes that ravaged parts of the midwest and southeast almost two weeks ago.
Growing up in Nashville, I have seen firsthand the devastation of such disasters. Thankfully, my family has always been spared most destruction. But there are a lot of families who have not been.
The home we are renting is not a very good place to be in a storm and we have no real “safe place”. I fled my own home two weeks ago, grabbing a few things that I wouldn’t want to lose (what do you even grab in an instant like that?) I trucked it to my cousin’s who has a basement in fear of the worst as they were predicting.
Again, we were thankfully spared as no tornado hit our community.
Unfortunately, it did hit other towns.
These are a few images of Piner, Ky, where a member of the RATR community lives.
I was in contact with her, and this is what she had to say, “My hometown is Piner, KY, and as you may know, we suffered a tornado last Friday. Much of my free time has been spent helping other families clean up the wreckage that was their homes, their barns, their animals and their entire lives. In addition to, my cousin was such a brave mommy that she jumped on top of her 2 year old son because they didn’t have a basement, and she is in ICU at the hospital and has had to have a few surgeries on her back due to the damage and debris, she was impaled by a wood beam. Also, our 98 year old Great Grandmother keeps suffering strokes, and we have been in and out of the hospital with her as well.”
Can you imagine?
Some lost homes. Some lost lives.
With a toddler, I can’t physically go give a helping hand so I am hosting a fundraiser to help the disaster relief there in Piner and in other areas affected.
All of the proceeds from my March 12 – March 31 Shaklee sales will be donated to The Red Cross in honor of each of the tornado victims.
