Being a Work at Home Mom

One of the questions I get asked a lot is how do I do it all? How do I find time to run a successful business (and Etsy shop) while still managing and running the house with a toddler?

Well, those are very good questions! And I don’t really feel qualified to answer them, but I will try…
First of all, let go of any “Super Mom” fictional character you may aspire to be. There is a such thing as being a super mom, but not “Super Mom”! And secondly, some days go a lot more smoothly than others. As mom’s, some things are just out of our control (fussy baby’s, demanding laundry, etc).

Being a work at home mom you have to choose your battles, name your priorities, and learn to let go of a few things (like dusting the ceiling fans every week).

My number one job is that last word of the title: Mom! Meaning that my number one priority is being the best mom I can be for my baby! I chose this life for HER! Not for ME! The work from home part came later… I chose to start an Etsy shop to destress with pretty ribbons at the end of those tiring days. And then chose to start my Shaklee business to better the health and finances of my family!

When I started my Shaklee business I had a lot of rearranging to do in my schedule. Elizabeth has always been on some sort of routine, but I had to find a way to better utilize the time I had during the day. Being OCD, I had to come up with an actual schedule to manage our days.
Here is how are days are suppose to go:

I keep this on my fridge to help keep me motivated and on track, just like I do my dinner menu & cleaning schedule that I’ll share with you soon!

Now, there are some days that don’t go just like this. But, for the most part, on my most productive days, I have to stick to this. I have to treat my business hours just like I would if I were working a “real” office job.
I make probably 10-12 business calls per week, and they all happen during naptime. I try really hard to not be on the computer/phone while Elizabeth is awake, because I really feel like she needs most of my attention right now. If she’s happily playing in her room and I can sneak away, I’ll check my emails quickly, or send a quick post out on facebook. I do most of my blogging and training at night after she’s in bed.
